From the Desk of Major Harry Lacey our Corps Officer (Pastor)

In his book, Walking With God, John Eldridge writes, “Part of us doesn’t really want to hear what has to say. Even after years of God’s rescues and surprises and blessing upon blessing, there’s a part of me that gets irritated when someone says, ‘Let’s ask God.’ The act itself is a disruption. Sometimes it feels like grinding the gears. Stop? Now? Ask God? I’m bugged. That’s part of it. And the other part is, if we do hear something, we’ll have to obey.”

As you read the book of Joshua, you discover that the Israelites received specific instructions from God all the way through the battle of Jericho – when to cross the river, how to cross the river, when to take Jericho, how to take Jericho. And amazingly, it worked!!!

Now you would think they would be convinced that to follow God and be spiritually successful depends upon obeying His Divine directions. Not so! The next day comes and here they are, ready to take city number two and you know what? They don’t ask! It’s not that they don’t ask the second question, they do not even ask the first. They just charge ahead and pay dearly for it.

I am sure the majority of us can identify with this. We don’t ask because we don’t want to know. If I know, then I am expected to follow God’s counsel.

Let’s not forget the words “His way is best you see, I’m in His hands.” There is safety and deep peace when you are in God’s hands – in His will.

We welcome Lieutenant Stephanie Puza, newly commissioned to the Phoenix Citadel as the Associate Officer. She will oversee our youth programs teaching our children about the love and grace God provides.
